That is what drives me.\u00a0 Plus, look at all of my accomplishments&#8230; those certainly aren\u2019t the result of a <strong>fear of success<\/strong>.\u00a0 Are they?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It certainly seems like a strange concept, at first take, but maybe, just maybe there is something to the possibility of being\u00a0<strong>afraid to succeed<\/strong>.\u00a0 For example, success brings on heightened expectations.\u00a0 After all, the spotlight isn\u2019t shining on those \u201cin the middle of the pack\u201d \u00a0\u00a0Or, consider the possibility that deep down you aren\u2019t sure if you have the resources to commit to all that it would take to succeed.\u00a0 Or, have you reconciled that\u00a0<strong>being successful<\/strong>\u00a0might cause you to act in ways that you aren\u2019t comfortable or familiar.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s take a little quiz.\u00a0 Answer the following questions \u201cYes,\u201d \u201cNo,\u201d or \u201c\u201dMaybe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; Are you unable to make a\u00a0<strong>total commitment<\/strong>\u00a0to being the best player you can be?<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; Do you have a pattern of injury or illness before a big round?<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; Does your training vary in quality and intensity?<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; Do you stay within tour \u201c<strong>comfort zone<\/strong>\u201d in practice and competition?<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; Do you avoid things that will make you improve?\u00a0 For example, purchasing better equipment, or investing in a better diet.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; Do you trade what you want the most (<strong>goals<\/strong>) for what you want right now (relief)?<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; Do you rationalize why it is O.K. to <strong>fall short of your goals<\/strong>?<\/p>\n<p>If you answered \u201cyes\u201d to three or more of these questions you may have a significant fear of success.\u00a0 But, what can you do about it?\u00a0 Here are some helpful steps&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Tip # 1\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Look inside and choose to change.\u00a0 Take a long hard look at the answers to the quiz and accept the fact that you have fear. <strong>Fear<\/strong> is a normal reaction to challenge or uncertainty, but demand of yourself the courage to work towards dispelling the fear.<\/p>\n<p>Tip # 2 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Require an <strong>excellent effort<\/strong> at all times.\u00a0 Don\u2019t settle for less.\u00a0 This doesn\u2019t mean you will always win, but, you will know that you gave it your best shot.<\/p>\n<p>Tip # 3\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 See success.\u00a0 Whenever you think about competing do not allow yourself to see <strong>failure<\/strong>.
