All of the pieces are in place.\u00a0 The due diligence has been completed in meticulous fashion.\u00a0 The investors are poised and ready with dripping pen and open checkbook.\u00a0 The market looks very primed for your new venture.\u00a0 The moment has arrived that you have been dreaming and planning for your entire adult life.\u00a0 It\u2019s \u201cgo time.\u201d\u00a0 Suddenly, the only thing that could capsize your ship emerges in full force.\u00a0 \u201cGo time,\u201d in one ugly instant, has become \u201cno time.\u201d\u00a0 The deal is off.<\/span><\/p>\n

Most business and personal planners stress the importance of having clear goals with a definite\u00a0<\/span>strategic plan<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>to achieve the goals.\u00a0 Historically, the Krocs, Gates, and Rockefellers of the world had very detailed visions and plans.\u00a0 Very successful people are notorious for leaving \u201cno stone unturned\u201d as they\u00a0<\/span>plan<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>and execute.\u00a0 Checking and rechecking is the standard, not the exception, to successful ventures.\u00a0 However, things do not always go as\u00a0<\/span>planned<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

At best, analysts and strategists are able to give probabilities of success<\/em> if things continue as planned.\u00a0 But, what about unexpected or unpredicted curveballs or market assaults?\u00a0 What about Plan B<\/strong>?\u00a0 Or, Plan C<\/strong>?\u00a0 Or, Plan Z<\/strong>?<\/p>\n

When planning<\/strong> for success, whether in your business or personal life, it is imperative that sufficient time and effort are made to create solutions for scenarios that are not expected.\u00a0 What if interest rates soar?\u00a0 What if there is a sudden and devastating illness or loss?\u00a0 What if a key individual jumps ship for more pay or freedom?\u00a0 What if this?\u00a0 What if that?\u00a0 Be creative when considering unexpected problems<\/strong> or obstacles<\/strong>.\u00a0 Don\u2019t be afraid to ponder, in a very real way, worst case scenarios.<\/p>\n

It isn\u2019t until Plan A — the one that everyone hopes and expects \u2013 shows stress fractures, or fails outright that people begin to panic and point fingers.\u00a0 Solution?\u00a0 Create multiple plans<\/strong> based upon multiple scenarios.\u00a0 Ask a lot of \u201cwhat ifs\u201d and create a lot of solutions based upon those \u201cifs.\u201d\u00a0 It isn\u2019t until many routes have been selected that you should feel comfortable about moving ahead.<\/p>\n

After all, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.<\/p>\n

Create alternate plans for all ventures. Very seldom does Plan A work just as expected.<\/p>\n
